During the making of the movie, Pryor decided to create a rum like the one McCoy smuggled from the Caribbean to New York in the 1920s. While many other bootleggers diluted their alcohol with turpentine or prune juice, McCoy’s rums were pure and uncut, earning them the moniker “The Real McCoy.”
