What You’ll Learn: Virginia-based Virago Spirits has only been open since 2018, but has already taken a number of approaches to bringing interesting rums to market in the U.S. First came Four-Port Rum, a blend of 4- to 8-year-old rums from Barbados, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Panama. Then, they began distilling their own rum using direct-fire Charentais-style alembic pot stills—an approach you don’t see every day. Along the way, they’ve also released cask-finished editions of Four-Port Rum using port and PX sherry casks. In this livestream, co-founders and distillers Barry and Brad Haneberg will take us deeper into their unique approaches to distillation, blending, and aging.
